Sixth Form

The academic year 2008-2009 offers students the opportunity to continue their studies in the local community. Malton Sixth Form extends a warm welcome to students from Malton School and Norton College, as well as those from further afield. We pride ourselves in making the transition from Year 11 to Sixth Form as smooth as possible, and integrating students from Malton, Norton and other schools into one student body, where everyone feels valued and everyone respects each other.

To aid integration the year will start with an exciting residential induction course which allows students to meet informally, whilst tackling a challenging programme of teamwork activities based on mental and physical problem-solving. Activities include navigation, kayaking and abseiling.

We are committed to the provision of high quality teaching, varied learning and stimulating extra-curricular activities which will contribute to your continuing education and provide the platform for examination success. Guidance will be available to help you in your choice of career or higher education course.

Whatever your background of the student who joins the Sixth Form, we are confident that Malton School will enable the continue education in a happy, caring and supportive environment.

Careers Guidance

Timetabled time is allocated for careers guidance, preparation for work experience/work shadowing and tuition in study skills and examination and revision techniques. Our careers library contains comprehensive reference materials and videos. Prospectus information, guide books, and university internet sites are all available on the network.

Form tutors regularly use the form period for the initial counselling of students. There is a careers specialist who can be called upon for specialised help. In addition there are regular visits by the representative from North Yorkshire Careers. Work Experience and Work Shadowing enable students to gain a deeper insight into the world of work. Visits to university open days and the County careers convention complement the programme. These various opportunities are designed to help

students make the most appropriate choice of career and/or course in Higher or Further Education. The School offers entry to higher education through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) electronic application system.
